A Dozen Random Signs

picture of random sign

Sometimes my blog posts of signs have a unifying theme, but today's signs are just random — some that readers have sent me and some that I've run across on the web.

I'm fairly sure that this business meant that only senior citizens would be eligible for the special price, but the sign just doesn't read that way.

The signs in this blog post are random, which is a word in the following sign. But I would be leery of a facility with this sign posted:

I wonder if the third restroom is for legal or illegal aliens.

My most recent blog post was about the WC. The comments to that post are quite good. As a result, I posted a comment with pictures of toilets like ones we have seen in France and in China.

Our daughter Nora took the following picture in a dentist's waiting room. I'd never seen a sign prohibiting heelys. In fact, I didn't know that that was what they are called!

The sign combines its two prohibitions into one unlikely picture.

Two of my readers are engaged to each other, though I don't think it was not my blog that brought them together. 🙂 He sent me a screen shot of an odd banner ad he saw on a wedding planning website.

Here's a hand-made sign about the 3 R's (almost). It might have had all the words spelled correctly, had the man gone to a sign-maker.

At least reading and writing are spelled right....

Any handicapped people showing up at this polling place might have appreciated a curtsy or even a curtsey more than a courtsey, just as a courtesy to those who prefer correct spellings.

One of my readers, a student from about 20 years ago, sent the following picture. She posed for the picture so that her photographer friend could capture the sign over her head at Lamai's Thai Kitchen.

I thought she and her friends were brave to eat in a place with a sign advertising the fact that the owner had not passed the public health exam!

In e-mail that accompanied that picture Lesley wrote, "Many years ago, Lamai used to have another hand-lettered sign prohibiting the sharing of buffet plates which read "No shaking! You shake, you pay!!" We would sit at our table in convulsions, just to violate the stern order." She went on to say that Lamai never demanded that they pay for shaking at the table. Oh my!

I snagged this picture from gizmodo.com along with their caption.

This sign underlines the fact that it pays to be able to read a foreign language.

If you can read Spanish and ask for the OJ in Spanish, you can save a dollar!

Taco Bell has figured out a way to have "season's greetings" for any event.

I hope your week is off to a good start. This is the last week of classes before our annual Bible Conference next week. Then five more weeks of classes, finals, and it's summer vacation. Phew! I'm tired when I think of everything that has to happen in those eight weeks. Maybe it's just the time change and losing an hour's sleep that's done that to me.

Some people wouldn't know a random act of kindness if it hit them in the face!

What is a heelie or heely?

@Marilyn: I think heelys (heelies?) are shoes with wheels in them.

@Mr. Loach: Thanks for posting that banner ad! We were laughing so hard when we saw that juxtaposition of ad and links! 😀

The jack-in-the-box toilet cleaning system is indeed scary, as is Lamai that wants help passing his health exam! Yikes! Heelies are prohibited in lots of stores up here in Fairbanks. I also see kids scooting around on them in stores more than I like!

    Re: Heelies
We have signs like that for our malls here in Canada. They are a most interesting shoe and not allowed at the mall!

@Vikki – It seems so unhealthful for dogs, doesn’t it?

@Marilyn – You heard it from Laura. The “official” website has it heely / heelys. I’m not sure that the plural adheres to standard English pluralization, though.

@Laura – Glad your fiancé sent it. It was a nice addition to the randomness of this post.

@Carrie – I guess the whole thing about a Jack-in-the-box is the random nature of when it pops up, but the thought of that happening under me with cleaning solution is disturbing.

@Carol – I’m glad the Canadian malls have safety standards about such things. 😀
