More Mug Shots

In my blog post before last, I posted pictures of coffee mugs and asked my readers to share any that they personally like. Several people took me up on it in the comments to that post and by sending me some pictures. So I am posting today what they've sent.

Here's one about the downside of dating.

Here's one with a Herbert Hoover quotation on it.

Here are several fun ones about coffee itself.

Now You May Speak Mug

Prepare To Die

My wife Becka did a blog post earlier this month about a day trip to Columbia, SC, that we enjoyed before classes began. One of the main reasons for choosing that destination was to see an exhibition of Norman Rockwell art before it was taken down the next weekend. It was called Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera. (That link is to a page about it on the Norman Rockwell Museum's website. It talks about the practicality of using photos rather than painting live models.) The exhibition was quite interesting and we are very glad we made the trip.

I'll end with two pictures I took at that exhibition. They are actually at least slightly related to this post in that they involve a series of "mug shots." I've turned the two pictures into one image. On the left you can see the photographs that Rockwell used to do the artwork on the right. If you would like to see it slightly larger, just click on the image.

Rockwell Gossips Small

That piece of art by Rockwell is called "The Gossips." It's instructive to see that the only technology used in spreading gossip at that time in history was the telephone. Imagine what that work of art would look like today with all our means of communication and social media! Such a work of art would definitely be more challenging to produce.

Well, this is two weeks in a row of posting to my blog! We'll see how long I can keep it going. This summer will mark 10 years of blogging for me! And that follows 8 years of doing this all by e-mail distribution. Maybe that's why my zeal is waning.... I do appreciate the encouragement I received from a number of you about my return to the blog-scene. There is still plenty of humor in the world, with more being generated (often unwittingly) every day. Thanks to those who keep me supplied with what you run across or notice.

The permanent Rockwell museum is in Western Massachusetts http://www.nrm.org/. My wife and I visited it a number of years ago. If you are in that area, it is worth the visit if you enjoy his work.

My son and I went to the Rockwell museum when visiting my daughter this past May. It is well worth a visit if you’re in the area. It was cool to see the originals of many of his famous paintings.
