The following comes from an email I received from one of the readers of my blog. I cannot vow to its authencity….

It’s no news that Barry Bonds hit homerun No. 755 at San Diego to tie Hank Aaron’s record and received a warm reception along with some boos. There are some who believe that Barry Bonds should be disqualified for using steroids. I do not really want to enter that debate.
Whether Barry took steroids at some point in his career, I don’t know. I just want to capitalize on the current situation to sell a prized possession - I am selling one of my Barry Bonds baseball cards to the highest bidder. Below is the highly prized Rookie Card that I bought in 1986.

Let the bidding begin!

The photo of the Barry Bonds baseball card from 1986 is hysterically funny. As I was growing up in another century [not the 19th, but the 20th!], we did have real heroes. Most of us in Detroit during the 1960s and 1970s really admired Al Kaline, who played right field for the Tigers. He was (and still is) one classy guy. What is sad today is that young people do have heroes, but most of those heroes send a completely WRONG message to their admirers.
As for the heavy hors d’oeuvre last night, Cynthia did let us know that they were indeed very good. She also sent us photographs of the newly-completed front entrance, which I really like. It’s quite a different look than we enrolled as freshmen in 1967 [yes, forty years ago!]. Incidentally, we will be seeing Stephen Jones and others at the Minneapolis Friendship Dinner on Thursday evening this week. We look forward to that event.
