All I can do after reading your post today is smile and shake my head. You’re a funny man.

Inquisitive minds want to know! I had great fun today with a small box of candy and a note that read

Happy April 1st - Have a chocolate!

It was hilarious to what the reaction of people torn between the desire for a tasty treat and the suspicion of Geeks bearing gifts :)

My poor students nearly had heart attacks today when I opened class by asking, “Before we get to the quiz, are there any questions about your oral presentations for Friday?”. (The quiz was real, but not the presentation…)

I love this holiday :)

“Microsoft announces it has perfected its newest version of Windows so it crashes BEFORE installation is completed”

^^ slightly ironic since I just experienced the blue-screen-of-death yesterday. Oh technology….

@David - Thanks! It takes one to know one. :-D

@Bill - I loved your prank! It would have been fun to have a camera going to get all the reactions.

@Shannah - Your prank was a good one! I did a typical French prank – I had a paper fish taped to my back. The French do that, and when the victim discovers it, they shout “Poisson d’avril!” (April fish!) My students were quite amused.

@Lise - I could tell you were getting into all the pranks today. I just did a bunch of Microsoft updates on my computer last night … it had been a while. And believe it or not, it’s still running today.

#6 Meg on Apr 1st, 2009 at 7:36 pm Did you hear about the nation wide English test for tommorow?

#7 Rob on Apr 1st, 2009 at 9:47 pm

@Meg - No, I ain’t heared nothin’ ’bout no Anglish test! How can they do that to us?!

Oho! I have been puzzling ‘why’ this edition went first to the spam box. Now I know (I think . . .)

@Marilyn - Filtering is wonderful. I’m sure the various “headlines” contained lots of key words that filtering looks for to peg an e-mail as spam. I’m glad you found the e-mail.

I’m glad I got through the entire day Wednesday without anyone playing an April Fool’s joke on me. I’m not a big fan.

@Michael - Some pranks can and do go WAY too far in embarrassment, inconvenience, and even damage. I call those “impractical jokes.” But some of the pranks can be and are quite fun. Our neighbor is expecting the arrival of a baby in about three weeks. She awakened her husband a 5:00 a.m. on April 1st and told him she was in labor. When she said “April Fools!” he was only mildly amused since he was then wide awake. I just hope he is one of us who wake up fairly cheerful rather than grouchy.</description>
