Signs of Spring

picture of crocus

Ah, Springtime! Such a wonderful and miserable time of year! Here in South Carolina some of our spring flowers are already gone by – crocuses, hyacinths, and some types of daffodil – while other daffodils are blooming, along with forsythia bushes, tulips, and creeping phlox. Many trees are pollinating big-time, a fact of which we allergy sufferers are well aware. The temps are a roller coaster, and we're enjoying much-needed rain. We're getting so much rain lately that it's almost as if the Lord is saying, "Drought, schmought."

Thinking about these signs of spring got me thinking about a dozen assorted signs for your amusement.

One of the dangers of spring's warmer weather is the thinning of the ice, but only if you are not thin yourself, according to this sign.

This sign is almost illegible, the tree has grown over it so much. I wonder how many hit this bad curve way too fast....

These three signs leave me scratching my head.

Here are the comments I received on this post before I had to rebuild the blog.

A sign at our local restaurant read,

“Children left unattended will be given a free puppy.”

The Checkers sign reminds me of the juvenile joke most of us did at one point…”I’d like a cheeseburger without cheese.”

@Jenni – If you ever see that sign again, please take a picture of it and send it to me! I love it! It seems as though that technique may be effective.

@Dave – I cannot imagine anyone ever doing something like that, Dave. 😀

For the longest time back home there used to be a deer crossing sign with a big, red sticker strategically placed on the deer’s nose. It made me smile every time we passed it.

@Amanda – To my family’s annoyance, I love to say “Oh, dear!” in a cartoon voice each time we see the deer crossing signs. I probably would burst into the Rudolph song if I saw the sign you told about. :o)

We’ve passed a sign that says, “Bridge out. Through traffic only.” Interestingly enough, the bridge was only a short distance off of the road we were driving on and it didn’t look like there were any buildings/houses for people to go to before it.

@Ruth – I think I have a sign like the one you described in my stash of signs I’ve yet to publish, minus the information about there being no human habitations between the sign and the kaputt bridge. Thanks for telling us about that sign and situation.

It was too late to take a picture of it, but on a trip back from Florida this weekend we drove by a sign that said:

    “Real Fireworks Left Under Bridge”

and I said, “Oh, that’d be perfect for ivman!

Sign seen on the back of a Toyota station wagon:

    TO YO TA

I’m about to head to New York for the week on a school mission trip so I’ll be sure to shoot some pix of funny signs that we see along the way.

As for allergies, my wife’s allergies have been helped this year by the rain and also by this Oreck air cleaner that she takes with her from home to work and back.

And, for a poll question, how about people voting for what they are most allergic to.

@Jennaca and Franklin – Thanks for sharing the signs you’ve seen. Cute!

@Michael – I look forward to whatever funny signs you come up with. Thanks for the tip on the Oreck air cleaner. It might be helpful to many of us. Thanks too for the poll question idea.
