Very Funny Signs

picture of sign

I don't know what it is about funny signs that I find so amusing. Maybe it's just the highly public nature of a sign that makes a strange or confusing wording or an absurd picture all the more humorous. I'm sure that some signs are intentionally funny, just to grab attention and brighten someone else's day. But the thought that a sign is absurd without intentionality amuses me to no end. I've recently been sent or been pointed to some signs that had me laughing out loud (lol). If they amuse you as much as they did me, you might want to be sure you are reading this in a place where you are free to lol.

Here's a building that used to be located somewhere in Saint Louis. I understand it has since been torn down. Was there a butcher's shop down that side street?

Here are several signs that might make you think twice about parking near them.

The German is phrased pretty much like the English, but the French reads somewhat different. It says, "If you have any ideas of blocking our gate, drop them!!! Our elephants will come flatten your miserable rental car like the crêpes we serve. Thanks!!" Is that last language — "No pah king hee U hi ka. Tenks a lot" (No parking here your hire car. Thanks a lot.) — some sort of pidgin English?!

I'm not sure I'd want to trespass at this place!

I'd think more than twice about having lunch at this "interesting" place.

I wonder what an unused cow is....

It seems as if that guy might do better at a used cow lot.

Here a several signs with somewhat similar themes that I would never have thought to put together in signage.

With this being the year of the census as well as midterm elections, this sign would make a lot of sense, especially in some parts of the country.

With the approach of summer, many are thinking about their favorite swimming holes. Here are several signs that made me laugh out loud.

(I wonder if the sign maker meant to make the arms and head look like lol....)

I'll end with a picture a student sent me from the AACS competition week on campus. I suspect that someone with a bizarre sense of humor must have moved one of these signs to be with the other one. I'm glad someone caught it with a camera and sent it my way.

I hope these funny signs made you laugh during this week that is fairly stressful for many. Do you have a personal favorite among these signs?

A sign we saw on the back of a van as we returned from Charlotte week before last — Let's not meet by accident.

I was laughing out loud by the time I got to the sign combining rest rooms, torture chamber, and education center. You say to yourself, certainly someone should have realized that this was a grotesque combination before cutting the sign….Got to go off and think about the Diet of Worms.

I liked the no parking sign that threatened crushing by elephants. Really, now. 😮

Perhaps I’ve got an idea what unused cows might be. Unused cows are new cows, just manufactured or at least not sold yet for the first time … just as with cars, I guess.
